Contrastdifference in CS3 and 1X
Posted 2 years ago
Hi
I'm no expert by any means when it comes to PS work and there's a thing that bugs me somewhat. When I'm done with editing and save my image, there's a difference at about +25 in contrast and -10 in brightness between the ,seemingly good , picture in CS3 and how it looks when submitting it to 1X and my personal websight. Anyone out there who knows how to fix this? Is there something I can do so I don't have to compensate for this every time? I would appreciate any help :)

best regards

I'd say that it depends on your browsers ability to manage colour profiles. IE is still not able to handle colour profiles whereas Safari and Mozilla Firefox is. So if you are not using one of them - try - and see if it helps.

This is of course correct - but as you never know which browsers the viewers use, you should always use sRGB on the pictures you upload to the web. In that way you know that all viewers see exactly the same no matter which browser they use.

I use Mozilla Firefox as I find that to be superior to IE, and I use sRGB all the time. So I don't know which knob to tweek to get this right :)

I wholly agree with you John.My picture in 1X are less contrasted than I see in PS and I use Mozilla and sRGB.

Simple. Calibrate and profile your monitor.

Not anywhere near that simple. In fact an improperly calibrated monitor would not create the effect John is seeing. As others have said the most likely culprit is the failure to convert images in sRGB.

I decided to buy myself a new monitor and now I don't have the problem anymore. I still use CS3 and I also use Firefox. New monitor is calibrated and profiled, BUT so was the old one. So Ian:
Simple.Calibrate and profile your monitor.
, is not the answer in this case .
But the thing is that every image I put out on the web is in sRGB..so that wasn't the problem either.
It's not a problem anymore since I don't have that problem with my new monitor (almost the opposite :) ) .
Thank you all for suggestions .

Maybe the hosts could post a "test photo" indicating what should or should not be visible in the shadow and highlight areas?

ian,

if the hosts post a "test image" that works for this site only....... it is good and i like this site, but i also use other sites as well :) if to be honest

John..There is a similar thread floating around somewhere, seems us Mac users have the problem. What kind of monitor did you buy? This problem makes me NUTS.

Maybe the default gamma of 1.8 on a mac is the problem? The rest of the world is using 2.2.

"Changing your gamma setting on a mac is easy: Top Left Blue Apple > System Prefs > Displays > Color > Calibrate and choose 2.2 gamma when asked." - Ken Rockwell and tested on my imac.
