Hi tito.
I myself have a D80 (and a D200) and i bought myself a Sigma 17-70 f 2/8 a year ago. I can only say that I love that lens. For that affordable price you get sharp optics. I just have 2 small complaints about it.....: When using 17 mm you will get a small curvature at the horizonlevel. It is fairly easy to adjust in editing. And the second thing is that the zoom slides abit when pointing upwards or downwards. I solve that problem with tape. It irritates me now and then but not enough to get something else instead. I also have a 10-20 Sigma and that supplements the 17-70 (or visa versa :))
The bottom line is; good optics if you look at the price, but some minor irritations .
Hope this could help

regards
John

I second what John says, I use the Sig 17-70mm probably about half the time along with my Sig 10-20 and 70-200. I personally don't experience any horizon curvature with mine on D200 or D300, for the price it is a cracking wee lens that is sharp and has the added advantage of f/2.8 @17mm but goes to f/4.5 @70mm.

If you look at my PF I always detail which lens I use in the equipment line so you can see some examples.

Sigma 17-70 produces very clear and sharp images. Is a good choice for a rasonable price :-)

Thanks for the replies. I had a look at your PF John and you got some really great landscapes in there. I love landscape asweel and to tell you the truth I was thinking getting a sigma 10-20 I love wideangle. But then as I do not have any other lens I am afraid to miss the lenght 20-70 for street picture for example. Anyway I think the sigma 17-70 is goig to be what at the moment I need for.
