"Purple" screen after calibration...
Posted 2 years ago
I have today calibrated my screen (cheap viewsonic) with a Spyder Pro. I downloaded latest version drivers from datacolor.com (2.7.7). I got 0.047 in difference when adjusting RGB, but even so the screen has å purple hint afterwards (text here in forum e.g.). IMO it is ok when I reduce the blue channel with about 10-15%. Any idea whats wrong?

The screen :)

If you calibrate a screen of bad quality you will not get good results. The calibrator will try to compensate for weaknesses in the response curve of the monitor to get as accurate result as possible, which might give strange results for the human eye.

Thx, Jacob. As I suspected ;) But uncalibrated is it much better than calibrated, so I removed all software from colorvision, and are happy with it...

Maby an older version of the software would do the tric...

How much have you invested on your equipment, Wiktor? The screen is certainly part of it, and worth spending some money on ;)

I second Inés, get a decent monitor.

I just got the 27" iMac and I must say it is absolutely mind-blowing. H-IPS panel and LED backlight. 2560x1440 resolution. It costs as much as a pro 27" monitor with LED would cost, but you get the super computer for free. It can also be used as a standalone monitor for computers with Mini Displayport (not very common outside the Mac-world though).

Ines, I'm afraid my equipement is in the same "division" as my monitor. My camera is an 4 year old D80, but one of these days I want a new one. A new monitor is certainly high on the list to. Did I hear Eizo....

Incredible, I made the same calculation when I saw the reviews...
I'm just a bit sorry now I bought a separate Mac Pro computer a year ago :-(
