I have very few (better say no) experience in wedding photography and I know it's not an easy job at all. In 3 weeks I will jump into this role for the first time (friends without money for a professional photographer asked me to do it). In the meantime I have collected some advice on the net, but I still don't feel comfortable about the lenses. I intend to use the following 3 (on my Canon EOS 50D)
1.4/85 mm (Zeiss Planar)
2.8/11-16 mm (Tokina)
and 1 zoom, probably
3.5-6.3/18-270 mm Tamron

Does somebody have further/other suggestions? Any help/advice very much appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Good choice of lenses.
I shoot a lot of weddings, and i always keep those in my back for my Olympus E-520:
Sigma 10-20mm f4.0
Olympus 25mm f2.8
Olympus 50mm f2.0
Sigma 70-200 f2.8
..and my next purchase is the Sigma 30mm f1.4

I would definitely bring the 85/1.2L if you have it available. But, of course, the Zeiss will do too. I used Canon before, and that 85 was my absolute favorite. So much that when I wrecked one once, I couldn't wait for the repair. I just bought another one.

thanks lars & kasper. in the meantime I have done 2 weddings of friends so I could collect some experience. really hard job under difficult light conditions. the zeiss planar 85mm has done a good job. but my favorite now is the Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L. high quality & lots of versatility do compensate weight... all the best, mauro
